Our practice was set up in 1985 in Cottenham Cambridge. Cottenham is six miles north of the City of Cambridge. We work from the former village Bus Garage: the previous tenant was, for many years the Cottenham Bristol Bus, plying between Cottenham and Cambridge. The replacement Leyland would not fit, and the garage remained vacant until we converted it into our offices.
We have worked with house builders, and have completed over 80 flats and houses for a London developer and we have worked with local house builders on many sites. Locally work is wide ranging and includes extensions and alterations to domestic buildings and our tally of extensions is over 180.
The Team
Bill Miller
Has been in practice in Cambridge and Cottenham for 25 years. He has wide experience in housing having commenced his career working on social housing and then starting a practice in Cambridge based on developer housing in west London. Workload is now varied and projects have been designed, project managed and completed ranging up to £1million in value. New houses and housing are still a main interest particularly if the houses are to have a ‘green or eco’ theme. Conservation work is an alternate interest. Sensitivity and respect for the existing fabric and historical construction methods are required in both conservation of the historic fabric, and in the accommodation of new for historic buildings.
Trevor Smith
Is an architectural technologist and has been an integral part of the practice since 2004.
He has carried out a detailed research project into the energy efficiency of 1970’s housing and is qualified in the field of energy efficiency of dwellings.
Debbie Wick
Is an office administrator. Her background includes administrative work for the Police Service and for companies in the pharmaceutical sector. She has been working for the practice since 2003.
We work with other construction professionals to provide a comprehensive construction consultancy service:
- JR Associates (John Rowley) Cost Consultants
- Martyn Leeks Cost Consultants
- Gawn Associates Structural Engineering Services
- Anglia Building Surveyors CDM co-odinator under CDM regulations 2007
The design team produces the detailed construction package, drawings and specifications, etc. to enable speedy and accurate construction. Concentration on the production of a comprehensive package will enable the construction to be on time and to budget.
Building Contractors are an important part of the team and we have built up good relationships with local building contractors. They are part of the team required to deliver the finished construction project. We are able to suggest suitable contractors for specific projects. Working near Cambridge we benefit from the generally high standard of construction companies who work for the University and Colleges. |
